Here you see (the new) me with a fierce-looking boar, tamed.  I would like to congratulate myself for passing the hardest part of Generation 8’s mainstrem quest of Mabinogi.

It all started with the simple and stupid mistake I made when I ended my long absence from the game.  The plan was to rebirth as a female and borrow a Raccoon Cub Wizard Suit from a friend… but then I forgot the fact that the suit requires age 17 to wear; the tragedy ensues when I rebirthed to an 11-year-old loli.

Six weeks of waiting is too long.  Meanwhile I did my part in spamming Karu parts dungeons and got 3 –cp enchants, and finally a female light armor with the 4th –cp enchant from (the god-knows-how-many-good-stuff-he-has) friend.  Then I looked like on the screenshot, in a set that I call my sadistic “training” suit. :3

It is good to know that even for a character with 1400-ish CP, obtaining a 10-mil gold worth of Raccoon Cub clothing is not a necessity to train Animal Taming to Rank 9.  If I’d realize it earlier I am probably done with G8 by now >.>  All you need is:

  • get to at least 1k cp (the less the better, of course)
  • four pieces of –cp equipments from karu’s parts dungeon
  • willingness to spend nx buying 36 minutes tendering pots
  • have large enough inventory and number of pets (especially flying mounts) to reduce the time needed

The skill’s Rank F~C is trivial as it has no restriction on how strong monsters has to be compare to your character.  And to get to R9, all you need is to find two kinds of easily tamable monsters that can provide you with “Normal” and “Strong” training.  Thanks to JP Mabi wiki, the idea of training on Black-footed Tarantula, combined with Tendering Potion, can be both Strong and Normal to me.  Plus the location is very close to Cor and even closer, Herba Jungle Mana Tunnel; so it is easy to refill baits.  Plus, the monster’s aggro range and detection speed is very friendly so unless you stay within the Taming skill’s range for a fairly long amount of time, the chances are you will not get aggro’d at all.

I used Tikka Wood Taming Cane and Courcle Taming Bait.  The cane is a reward from rafting and perhaps a collection reward? … though it may be easier to buy it from someone else.  The bait is just the cheapest kind in game, bought from Tupai in Cor village.  I did not try the other two rare baits since all those exploration collection quests are so indiscriminately painful to do ;_;

Of course your 1000+ cp character is strong enough to fight and take hits from the Tarantula.  Use pets to reduce mobs’ hp to about 10% and use mounts, preferably flying mounts to cancel aggro, then you are all set to go.  Note that Rank A~9 training asks for taming “awful” mobs; ignore that and complete the rest of the training which adds up to 100% exp needed to rank up.  Rank A is also the point which significant raise of taming success can be observed both on the Tarantula and Otters.

Anyway it looks like I can complete G8 before G9 comes out?  <3
