Having the taming part finished for Generation 8, it is only matter of time when the entire generation’s mainstream quest is finished.   I overestimated the challenge posed by the final boss and the fun of killing it…   But here, Taunes riding his newest pet unicorn in <SPOILER> is worth to see, at least. :p

With Nexon being surprisingly generous, I reached lv70 for the first time on my character… never again this shall happen, I assume, because I have no plan of paying for double exp pots >.<

With G9’s arrival materializing just beyond the horizon, I have somewhat finalized my skill set–lastly, with ranking up my newest favorite skill.  Now, having achieved most of my goals in skills, pouring AP into Alchemy skill can be done without hesitation ^^

Thanks go to all who helped me with the final boss and more importantly, I shall express my highest gratitude to people ran with me in Karu dungeon for many times ^^

Here you see (the new) me with a fierce-looking boar, tamed.  I would like to congratulate myself for passing the hardest part of Generation 8’s mainstrem quest of Mabinogi.

It all started with the simple and stupid mistake I made when I ended my long absence from the game.  The plan was to rebirth as a female and borrow a Raccoon Cub Wizard Suit from a friend… but then I forgot the fact that the suit requires age 17 to wear; the tragedy ensues when I rebirthed to an 11-year-old loli.

Six weeks of waiting is too long.  Meanwhile I did my part in spamming Karu parts dungeons and got 3 –cp enchants, and finally a female light armor with the 4th –cp enchant from (the god-knows-how-many-good-stuff-he-has) friend.  Then I looked like on the screenshot, in a set that I call my sadistic “training” suit. :3

kusudayuniApart from being lazy and all, I find it difficult to come up a topic and write about my mabi character.  Partly maybe because I’ve never been a real goal-oriented person both in and outside of games… but of course, without goals there is no motivation, ergo, in order to have fun, some goals must be set, which most likely will be altered, delayed, and maybe even canceled.

It is even harder to have a long-lasting sense of achievement in Mabinogi due to the game’s “open-ended” nature.  Finally, after finished ranking some skill or obtained an item, the excitement comes as “oh good, I can work on the next thing now.”  This has been motivating my character to move forward and become stronger; this also is a form of Greed… but as long as such greed exists, the game will still be fun.

Now, I shall be allowed to celebrate my Fireball skill reached rank 9, at last!  It is a moment worth of just stop, look and enjoy!  Well… actually, it’s a some kind of milestone for my character because now my Fireball is powerful enough to clear Ciar Advanced’s pole rooms.

Faster Ciar Adv = more levels = more AP = more skills can be ranked up.  Yay.  ThoughI think rank F Charge brought more change to my fighting style than my new weapon of mass destruction :p

Next things on my everlasting wishlist:

  • Get Taming to R9 before it’s too late (it already is too late).
  • Get G7 quests done.
  • Get at least R5 smash
  • Keep ranking up Life skills and Production skills
  • Final Hit, Charge, Arrow Revolver, Defend, #&%^(@#&%*(!@)
  • —Wall of the Unreachable—
  • <Insert last possible goal here>

This was originally written with the previous blog entry… but it would be off-topic, so I started a new one.

On topic of how important character customization is to an mmorpg… I’d say it’s fairly important to most players looking for games to play, as now.  However, I’m actually troubled if this “fairly important” someday may evolve into a “critically important” element of rating a game.  Remember Diablo II? You “customize” your character’s equipment, and that’s it—gender is based on class, and you can’t see people’s face, and don’t even think about changing your hairstyle!  And then came to the games where almost everything of a character is customizable: not only face and hair; height, body composure, limbs etc can be tweaked by exact numbers…

Should this be a trend?  In my opinion: no.  First of all, no matter how much visually appealing a game may appear, without a substantial competent gameplay, it will lose old players fast.  Secondly, “more ways of customize your character” does not equal to “visually appealing” as a whole.  I mean, when you create a character in a game, it is not meant to be a perfect idealization of your own image like you will live your second life, online, in that game.  To me, how much character customization each game needs is unique, and should fit the game’s atmosphere overall; of course, there are pure avatar “games” out there, but those are out of my area.  So generally speaking, the degree of customizability should just make sense.

mabinogi_2008_04_27_003

I saw somebody else did this and posted the screenshot on Nexon’s Mabinogi forum.  I used Lightning Bolt to make them following me around.  There are probably other ways to do this such as using Windmill (?)
