Rawr every­one~ Happy new year, 2010, the Year of Tiger~

Hav­ing noth­ing bet­ter to do other than sit­ting in front of my PC and enjoy Umineko no naku koro ni Episode 6, I am very much con­tent with my new year’s eve.  Ryuu-chan’s hol­i­day present is won­der­ful and since the start of Umineko’s seri­al­iza­tion, it became some sort of necessity.

Though I gotta say that Ep6 is noth­ing like I imag­ined: an episode filled with love and Battler’s prowess as the new Game Mas­ter.  In a sense, Episode 6, the Dawn of the Golden Witch, is cen­tered around the theme of love… how­ever, it’ll be much bet­ter with­out Bat­tler being so much of a fail­ure.  Wait, I’d bet­ter put up spoiler tag from now on lol.

Annual new year present is fab­u­lous as ever~

I fin­ished nekoneko’s Scar­lett for over two months and even now I still don’t know where to start on this “review”.  The game isn’t extremely good or bad, or has any­thing  shock­ingly inno­v­a­tive… it gave me the “just right” feel­ing which is hard to go around dif­fer­ent angles to elab­o­rate.  Then like the old say­ings: time makes things right.

Scar­lett is the last title pro­duced by one of the more cre­ative VN com­pa­nies: nekoneko, before it halted its pro­duc­tion for more than three years.  I don’t really have any­thing to say about the com­pany except that I heard their titles are of solid qual­ity; which con­curs with my opin­ion on Scarlett.

The game’s story is not sus­pense filled with plot twists or drama full of moot or  emo snip­pets. Scar­lett actu­ally tells a spy story–something you don’t see a lot from visual nov­els.  Myself is not an expert on spy sto­ries, so as a result, noth­ing really to com­pare to.  But rest assured the qual­ity of the script, with­out doubt, got me hooked instantly.

Game OP

There are sev­eral (need­less) con­fes­sions I’d like to make.  First: I have no immu­nity against Fue-san’s draw­ing style ever since being intro­duced to Kata­hane; and yes, that is the rea­son I started play­ing this game, ignor­ing the alarm­ingly low rat­ings from eroge.  Sec­ond con­fes­sion: I now regret about spend­ing time on this game.

Iron­i­cally, after play­ing its trial ver­sion, I felt this game could be some­thing.  Another les­son learned besides to not be seduced by a title only for its graph­ics is: do not trust a game’s trial ver­sion to be a good rep­re­sen­ta­tion of the game. 

By now you should be able to tell that I really dis­like Volume7.  I don’t tend to write neg­a­tive reviews since if a game doesn’t fit my taste; I wouldn’t want to fin­ish it and cer­tainly wouldn’t spend time writ­ing about it.  But let this be an exception… I can’t seem to find any Eng­lish review for Volume7 at all.  Something is bet­ter than noth­ing.  Be warned though, since the game is not trans­lated, there’s good chance that my info is not accu­rate xD
